HSNM's server/host Disk Usage

by worldvoice » 29 May 2020, 19:18

Hello!

We have success installed HSNM and it is working all fine. Our enterprise uses it.
The HSNM's file was unziped (is stored) in the /home directory.
The screenshot attached to this question shows the disk usage of our HSNM server/host:

1) The first check was done at 9 am on Wednesday of May 2020. The disk usage was at 216 Go of free space in the /home directory.
2) Second check was done at 5 pm on Friday of May 2020. The disk usage was at 208 Go of free space in the /home directory.
We tried attaching the screenshot for this check but it kept failing.

Looking at this, it shows that 8 Go of the space has been used three days.
We have only HSNM running on this server.

Is this normal?

Hi Worlvoice,
Disk space could increase so much because of logs.
Please check from System dashboard if you have errors/warnings or something that is writing continuously messages.
Ensure that there is an FTP for backup configured so it could be archived every X day and empty space.
Let us know.

Hello!
Disk space could increase so much because of logs.
Please check from System dashboard if you have errors/warnings or something that is writing continuously messages.
We have checked our system, and we have two sections of log files :
1) User Trafic Log ;
2) and System Logs.

1) User Trafic Log ;
We saw that the User Trafic Log files (each file occupied over 10Mo) are deleteable. So we have manually deleted them for now.
We would like to know how to set HSNM to auto delete this section file generated after X-days

2) And System Logs.
We equally saw System Logs information but the most possible option is to export it.
We want to know if this system logs are responsible in any way to the disk space consumption.

If these system logs are deleteble, how do we get to delete them?

Thank you for your quick response!

Hi,
once you've configured your "FTP for data backup" you can set under "Log backup" a value for "Days of log storage".
This number indicates how many days you keep Syslog and User Traffic log into HSNM storage.
Everyday HSNM compresses it and put it into your FTP and keep a local copy for "days of log storage" days.
Once those days pass, the oldest compressed log will be deleted locally.

Into User traffic log can be written thousands of lines of log because it keeps recording connections, Gw log, etc.
If it keeps arriving authentication, or error or maybe one o GW has problems, it could arrive massive amount of logs so your file will increase in size day by day.

For this reason, I encourage you to check if it keeps arriving messages and logs under the System dashboard or Syslog /user traffic log.
This could be a reason why your disk usage increases day by day.
Let us know.
Have a nice day.
