Hyper-V - VMWare incompatibility

by HSNMSupport » 13 Nov 2020, 11:05

A customer of ours writes to us that he can't manage HSNM Vm (previously imported from OVA format) to work on a Windows 10 / Windows Server 2012 R2 with VMWare Workstation Hypervisor.
He gets an error like this:
HotError_111320_110501_AM.jpg
Hyper-V and VMWare seem that can't be enabled at the same time.

So by searching inside the VMWare community forum we found a solution:
  • 1.) Right-click the start button in windows 10 (This solution will NOT touch VMWARE at all), and click "Control Panel"
2.) Make sure it has the icons listed instead of the groups. Click on "Programs and Features"
3.) On the left side of the window, click on "Turn Windows features on or off"
4.) When the next window opens, locate the check box labeled as "Hyper-V" ans make sure it isnt filled, and that it isnt checked.
5.) Then click on "Ok" button on the bottom of the window. It will refresh and apply the change to the computer. It will probably ask you to reboot. If it does, hit the "reboot now" button.
6.) After the computer restarts, try to launch VMWare again.
7.) If it still doesn't work try this alternative way: execute a prompt with administrator permission and type this command: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off. After you receive "The operation completed successfully", reboot it then try to launch VMWare again.
Please refer to this guide to fix the incompatibility.
Have a nice day all!

Ps
If you are in a pre-virtualized environment (VPS), please contact your ISP to check the possibility to run a VM under a virtualized server (nested virtualization).
