Is it in order to update from say ver. 5.0.124 directly to 5.0.184 without doing the in-between versions?

No, there isn't the possibility to directly update to 5.0.184 if a middle update is suggested.

Now I have a Challenge here, I am currently on version 5.0.180 directly from 5.0.124, can i downgrade to the versions in between then back to 5.0.180? or is there an order to be followed when doing the updates? e.g. i cannot do 5.0.160 before I do 157 ...

Please be advised that you can downgrade only to the proposed version and that, about the update, system always suggest the latest version.
